A recent view from the studio
A recent view from the studio

Hi Everyone,

Thank you for being part of my world via this blog! I always appreciate it when any of you write back with your observations/comments. As well, I enjoy knowing you care about what's happening at the studio!

8 months ago I applied to the New Jersey State Council on the Arts (via Mid-Atlantic Arts) for an Individual Artist Fellowship. These are based solely on the merit of the applicants' work samples. Yesterday the awards were announced and I've been honored with a $17,000 grant! Shock! Delight! Gratitude!

I'm grateful everyday for my studio practice. It's a privilege to have been able to craft a life in such a way that I can make art and earn a sufficient income to live well. I'm feeling the blessings of my family of origin as well as my teachers: Bill Daley, Graham Marks and Ka Kwong Hui in particular.

Art making is a presence practice as I see it. And it makes sense then that I can never get enough of it. My body poops out long before my Spirit does. It's that spacious territory beyond the thinking mind... another realm entirely.

The work in these images will be finished and exhibited at the James A. Michener Art Museum in Doylestown, PA beginning on Saturday, May 24th and running for 6 months. And I have prevailed upon the Michener to carry the work of some of my students and alumni in their gift shop for the run of the show. The beat goes on...
