Wed. Morn: 2 Faced: Opposites in Action

Course Description

There's a theme of two-faced, mythological figures going back to Roman times and continuing through modern movie animation. Tyree has been intrigued by this idea since she was young. In this class, the concept of contrasting emotions with a two-faced sculpture will be explored. Participants will create a character whose head can be removed and rotated depending on the mood they choose to portray. Tyree will demonstrate hollow hand-building techniques to create a figure from the shoulders up with a face on opposite sides. Slabs, coils and pinching will be used as needed. Tyree will share techniques to create pattern and texture, then finish by using underglazes to add dimensional color. The final week will be a glazing week. Come join Tyree for an exploration of facial expressions and a supportive clay community. The cost of this 7 week class is $495 and includes Open Studio: that's 24/7 access to practice in the space anytime another class isn't in session. Clay is available for an additional $15 per 12.5 lb bag. And firing fees will be assessed per piece.
