Course Description

In this course, Micah will cover handbuilding fundamentals that will be utilized in functional, sculptural, and hybrid forms. This class is open to all skill levels and will encourage students to construct hand-built forms beyond the assumed utility of ceramic wares. Returning students will have enhanced assignments expanding their skillset with modular and multipart projects. Over the 7-week course, we will cover various techniques such as coil building, soft and hard slabs, and molded and textured surfaces. We will address various methods of finishing beyond traditional glaze and underglaze use. These approaches aim to develop students' individual “visual language”. This curriculum aims to expand the scale and creative possibilities of your individual practice, empowering you to approach future ceramic work with greater confidence, clarity, and artistic intent. Class fee includes unlimited Open Studio access (outside of scheduled classes). It also includes all other materials and tools other than Clay which can be purchased for $15/12.5 lbs.
