Tues Morn: Handbldg Function + Sculpture

Course Description

In this course, Micah Lewis-Văn Sweezie will cover handbuilding fundamentals that will be utilized in both functional, sculptural, and hybrid forms. This class is open to all skill levels and will encourage students to construct and realize hand-built forms beyond the assumed utility of ceramic wares. Over the 7-week course, we will cover various handbuilding techniques such as coil building, soft and hard slabs, and molded and textured surfaces. These approaches aim to develop students' individual “visual languages” across both functional and sculptural forms. Upon completion of the course, students should have a confident understanding of handbuilding with clay and numerous new skills to expand the scale and creative possibilities of their individual practices, empowering them to approach future ceramic work with greater ambition, clarity, and artistic intent. The cost of this 7 week class is $495 and includes Open Studio: that's 24/7 access to practice in the space anytime another class isn't in session. Clay is available for an additional $15 per 12.5 lb bag. And firing fees will be assessed per piece.
