Sprigs, Slip Trailing + Color Layering
2-Day Workshop with Lisa Orr
Course Description
Lisa will demonstrate how to create unique pieces using bisque molds hand-built on the table. No prior experience required. Participants will start by using Lisa’s molds to form and decorate before making some of their own. Next the class will be introduced to low relief texture sprigging, slip-trailing and color layering techniques. Lisa will show how to create original, detailed, low-relief designs using "oil-clay" or plasticene modeling clay (available at any hobby store) to be molded in scrap clay for easy replication, to be applied to leather hard work in progress. Additionally, she will demonstrate how to make trailing slip for drawing directly on a damp clay surface. Decoration can be whimsical or structured to create a narrative. Lastly, we will discuss how jewel-tone color richness is achieved by laying engobes, slips, and translucent alkaline glazes. Lisa’s works are low-fired in an electric kiln but these processes and ideas translate to any temperature. A recipe sheet will be included. Class fee includes all materials and firings. WORKSHOP CANCELLATION (different cancelation policy due to the nature of students traveling distances) • Cancelations that take place greater than 1 month prior to a start date are fully refundable (minus a $100 admin fee). Those that come in 2-4 weeks ahead of a start-date are refunded by half. Those that come in w/in 2 weeks of a start date are non-refundable with the following exceptions: illness, accident, death in family. Registrants who fall into one of these noted categories are given a credit for a future workshop of the same or greater number of days.
