Course Description
Join Aussie, Bev Hogg for a 3-day workshop to create a free standing sculptural bird (imagined or real) with a personality as big and rapturous as it’s hair-do. (12 -14 inches high) Bev will lead you through a combination of hand building techniques that reveal and demystify the process of construction and modeling of your creature. Keeping a keen eye on the physics of stability we manipulate both the inside and outside, add and subtract to achieve desired volume, form and surface. Days 1 + 2 will be design drawings, maquettes + construction. Day 3 we’ll concentrate on surface texture and layering of colour - slips, underglaze and glaze. When dry the work will be once fired to vitrification. Contact Lisa Naples if you'd like to be placed on the waiting list. This workshop is for students with some clay experience. Beginners, please review our other Spring and Summer Workshop offerings. Firing, clay and glazes are included in the workshop fee. If you need your piece shipped after the firing, that can be arranged at cost. Basic tools are provided by the studio.

WORKSHOP CANCELLATION (different cancelation policy due to the nature of students traveling distances) • Cancelations that take place greater than 1 month prior to a start date are fully refundable (minus a $100 admin fee). Those that come in 2-4 weeks ahead of a start-date are refunded by half. Those that come in w/in 2 weeks of a start date are non-refundable with the following exceptions: illness, accident, death in family. Registrants who fall into one of these noted categories are given a credit for a future workshop of the same or greater number of days.
